KALIBO, Aklan, Regional Director Edilberto D. Tayao of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region VI has emphasized here that his department has allocated not less than P1 billion for various infrastructure projects in Aklan due for implementation by 2014.
Tayao lauded the efforts of both Congressman Teodorico T. Haresco Jr. and Governor Florencio T. Miraflores for making sure that the province can secure those budgetary allocations.
The DPWH regional director said that his department’s allocations for Aklan is exclusive only from his regional office without counting budgetary allocations from other departments for other programs.
Tayao has joined in the ground breaking ceremonies with Miraflores, Haresco and Vice Gov. Gabrielle V. Calizo- Quimpo for the P370 million 450- lineal muter Kalibo- Numancia bridge construction of which will start soon and will be completed by the end of next year.
The new 2-lane bridge with a 7.3 meters width will run parallel north of the Old Kalibo- Numancia bridge to ensure the safety of vehicular traffic and commuters alike as well as decongest the major thoroughfares from east to west of Aklan.
Tayao said the new bridge will be provided with sidewalks, balluster railings and street heights and which will be elevated higher than the old bridge in anticipation of the serious flooding at the Aklan river.
During Typhoon Frank in 2008 and Typhoon Quinta in 2012, floods had over-flown the old Kalibo- Numancia bridge.
